Developed under the name “Project Mercury”, the Game Gear was the primary competition to the Game Boy, the Atari Lynx and the TurboExpress.
A common issue with the original Game Gear is batteries being left in the compartment and leaking acid over time. Often this is a simple fix of replacing the eroded battery contacts.
Unscrew your console using a Game Bit 4.5 and Philips screwdrivers (we sell them), then unscrew and disconnect the power board from the console.
Desolder the old springs off the power board using a soldering iron, clean up the solder using a desolder pump, and re-solder the new springs into place.
