The Game Gear clock is techincally a crystal output that oscillates around 1-3V, and not strictly within the CMOS or TTL logic levels.
With age, weakening capacitor/resistor/crystal setup, the clock can fall below the digital logic levels when used on modern screen kits like the CleanScreen, causing pixel dots, color shifts, horizontal lines or black screens.
This clock booster is integrated into the CleanScreen as of v3.1, but this booster is still useful for older kits or other kits that do not have clock boosters. It has been shown to fix issues in other kits such as the BennVenn and FunnyPlaying kits, so if you experience clock issues it might be worth giving the clock booster a try.
Simply solder ground and 5V to suitable locations, then instead of wiring the FB pin (PCLK) from the Game Gear to your screen kit, send the Game Gears FB pin to the PCLK IN pin of the booster, and the PCLK OUT pin can go to your screen kit.
